Botw review

I’ll just start by saying WHAT A DOMAIN NAME. I mean, seariously, back then when they started this, there where tons of better tlds. Why botw? Why did they buy this site??

Why .org??? They are commercial all the way, and their rates are so high, so there is no organization. If you know a little history, you know that this directory was priory an organisation that was giving some awards to best websites. It was sold in 2002.

Anyways, the blog directory ideea seems interesting. The main issue I see in this directory is the redirection of categories. I’ll give an example. I don’t understand why categories like:

http://botw.org/top/Arts/Online_Writing/Blogs/

redirect to

http://botw.org/top/Computers/Internet/WWW/Weblogs/

Check another:

http://botw.org/top/Sports/Hockey/Ice_Hockey/Leagues/NHL/Teams/Boston_Bruins/Blogs/

redirecting to

http://blogs.botw.org/Sports/Hockey/NHL/Teams/Boston%20Bruins/

What is this? I’ve seen other sites penalized by a single redirection within their structure, but what is happening on botw is absolutely insane.

Now, about my site which is a directory, I have submitted it to:

http://botw.org/top/Computers/Internet/Searching_the_Internet/Directories/

but it got approved after one week here:

http://botw.org/top/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Authoring/Webmaster_Resources/

Some sites from my subcategory aren’t even working (ie. http://builder.com.com/) while others have gray pr. But if I make a simple Google check, the subcategory under which I am listed is indexed:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Abotw.org+my+green+corner&btnG=Search

There are other good points. Botw has over 2 mil indexed pages, a good pr and it was recommended by Google a few years ago.

Good points: Has authority.

Bad points: Category structure.

Recommendations: I can’t actually say that it is worth the $100/year fee for submitting a website to botw if you are a low raider, but if you have a solid business, it wouldn’t hurt.Still, you get no PR and no traffic.
