BUBL.ac.uk review

Any internet savvy should know that the .ac.uk TLD is restricted to UK academic institutions. That makes this directory one of the top from the beginning. Combining a good history (since 1997, by webarchive) with a selected clientèle (special focus on Library and Information Science), BUBL (short for ‘Bulletin Board for Libraries’) provides a link collection for higher education communities in which every webmaster would want a backlink to his sites.

The seo plus is small if we consider only Google PR, although the directory itself is rated at 9. But the subcategories are Pr 0, the titles, meta-tags and urls are not optimized to enrich a good crawling experience.   But what matters in this directory is the quality of the listings, which is impeccable. There are just a few people behind this directory, one can always contact staff at bubl@bubl.ac.uk, from what I see on the “About” page.

I could say that this directory is free, but that would be a wrong thing. For 99.99% of the sites on internet, this directory is inaccessible due high editorial standards. I am pretty sure however has a link in BUBL enjoys traffic and good rankings in search queries.

Overall, here are my grades:

PR: 10

Age: 10

Traffic: 10

Category Structure: 4

Listings quality: 10+

Number of sites listed: 8

Accepts inner pages: yes

Owner: University of Strathclyde

Time to get accepted: don’t know for sure, submission only by email.

Good points: PR, traffic, age and listings. This directory is hosted on a golden tdl, ac.uk.

Bad points: not accessible to most common types of sites, unoptimized for SE.

Recommendations: Only for education related sites and non-profit organizations.
