GoGuides review
I am now going to review GoGuides.org. After doing a briefly search on Google, I found that this directory has its own wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GoGuides. Nice, huh? Wikipedia tells us that:
-it was started in 2001. Hmm, so what’s up with tld “Goguides.org”??? Plain commercial directory, from what is see. Users have the possibility of choosing between $40 and $70 types of submission.
- has only one owner: Robert Barger
So, now I am looking at the site. One nice and interesting section is the webmaster resources one – goguides.org/wrc.html. Great stuff going on here, I see a lot of work in this area.
Now, about the directory itself, looks like a strong PR5 index, with an original directory structure, membership option and a lot of listings. What is lacking, some PR on some main categories and on most of subcategories, details pages for listings, url friendly links and some more appealing design (looks kinda dusty). Also, I didn’t get why this:
“Try: Links2go – Google – Yahoo! – MSN – Tygo – DataSpear – Wikipedia – Facebook – MySpace – YouTube – Twitter”
has to appear on every page of the directory. It seems like a weak advertising to Links2go, Tygo and DataSpear which are placed together with multimillion $ sites/organizations.
Overall:
PR: 8
Age: 10
Traffic: 7
Category Structure: 8
Listings quality: 7
Number of sites listed: 10
Accepts inner pages: no
Owner: Robert Barger
Time to get accepted: unknown
Good points: Has authority, good Alexa traffic, good backlink profile and a WIKI PAGE
.
Bad points: Unfriendly urls, pricey, TDL, not equally spread PR.
Recommendations: Good for link building, in some cases.
